Introducing GriffVan the Forest Camper
Welcome the newest member of our family, our Mitsubishi Delica, GriffVan the Forest Camper. With 2 kids and a big dog, we had outgrown our otherwise practical CR-V, Goldie Honda. Plus we want to do more road trips and more camping. We needed a vehicle that could take us out into nature year round, that would provide some shelter if we wanted to camp in rain or snow.Enter the Delica. This beast seats 8, has a middle seat the swivels 360°, and has all the practicality of a minivan. BUT it also boasts 4x4, seats that fold into a bed, and a 3000 cc engine for powering up hills and venturing off road. The Delica is a great car for a family that wants to adventure. We took Griff out for a test camp at Porteau Cove. We definitely have some kinks to work out and some new gear to get. Less rain than a monsoon would be nice. But the moments of magic catching crabs on the beach, cozying around the campfire, and cuddling out of the rain were just the kinds of memories I want my kids to have. When I was talking about taking risks last week, this is just the kind of thing I was talking about. Delicas are Japanese import vehicles, which means sourcing parts (and mechanics that feel comfortable working on them) can be a challenge. Griff, while he has low kilometers, is still a 20 year old car, so he will have his quirks and doesn't come with a lot of bells and whistles. We think, despite these potential pitfalls, that he will be a great vehicle for our family! We are happy to join the growing numbers of British Columbians joining the Delica club. Are any of you Delica families? Thanks to our friends at Velocity Cars for hooking us up!
