Family-Friendly Restaurants In Bellingham, WA

Family-Friendly Restaurants In Bellingham, WA

Bellingham is the perfect stopover on the way to Seattle. 30 minutes south of the border and an hour and a half from downtown Vancouver, you can stop before the 2 hour mark (when your kids are guaranteed to be screaming "Are we there yet?!")

Whether you need snacks, a full meal, or a beer break (except the driver of course), here are some of my favorite suggestions for Bellingham eats.

Old Town Cafe

Old Town Cafe is located in downtown BHam. It is a cozy, brightly painted cafe with a small play area for the toddler set.  They serve classic breakfast fare with a hint of California-Mexican flavor. Their lunch menu leans more toward Westcoast international cuisine.

Lafeen’s Donuts

Melt in your mouth classics, Lafeen’s Donuts is located right across the street from Whatcom Falls Park. Classic flavors only, this donut shop has been around for over 20 years.

Haggen Grocery Store

Let’s be honest: sometimes with kids it’s easier to buy fresh fruit, veggies, and crackers than try to get them to eat a proper meal. We got you. Trader Joe's gets all the love, but, growing up in the Seattle area, Haggen Groceries were my jam. Their produce is fantastic, their stores welcoming, and they are a small, family-owned grocery chain (plus kids can still get a free cookie from the bakery!).

Boundary Bay Brewery

Other times, you want to enjoy an adult beverage and ignore your kids a little. That’s where Boundary Bay Brewery comes in. They serve quality beer and cider (their cider was a tart berry style, perfect for a sunny day) and make a mean enchillada. Ask to sit in the beer garden outside, it has a small playground!

Mallard Ice Cream

Summer means ice cream cones in our family. Mallard ice cream has a rich flavor and a bit of icy crunch. Conveniently walking distance from the Brewery, for bribes when it’s time to leave!
