5 Favorite Bedtime Books

We read a lot of books at bedtime and "quiet alone time" (our no-naps version of naptime). I like to have one or two calming books around bedtime to set the mood. Here are a few of our favorites.image1. Goodnight Goodnight Construction SiteBreccan is super into construction trucks. For awhile in his first year, this book convinced him not scream at bedtime. For another while, when he was learning to talk, he would recite it along with me. So adorable.image2. Dinosaur VS. BedtimeWe found the "Dinosaur VS." books for the first time at Powells on a trip to Portland well before we had kids. We usually change the ending line to "dinosaur wins" because Breccan doesn't need to think he's battling sleep anymore than he already does!image3. The House in the NightThis is such a beautiful little story. It feels like a mindfulness meditation. And the illustrations are good for younger babies with their high contrast.image4. Where the Wild Things AreA classic. I feel like this really describes the emotions a toddler goes through. It's somehow a peaceful discussion of rage. Perfect for reminding you that you love your little wild thing.image5. Hug TimeWe found this story on a trip to Portland when I was pregnant with Breccan. I sat in Powells imagining myself reading it to my future child. It's became a favorite since Breccan is all about hugs.
